Apple Crumble Pie

One of my sons won a neighborhood pie contest with this pie. It's good, and he has lots more experience on the golf course than in the kitchen; i.e., it's easy.
Ingredients:
  • 5 cups apple slices (Golden Delicious preferred)
  • 1/2 cup sugar
  • 1 teaspoon ground cinnamon

  • 1/3 cup sugar
  • 3/4 cup all-purpose flour
  • 6 tablespoons cold butter, cut in small pieces

  • 1 unbaked 9-inch pie shell
Preparation:
  1. Preheat oven to 400°F.
  2. Peel and slice the apples into quarter-inch slices until you have 5 cups of apple slices. Put apple slices into the unbaked pie shell.
  3. Mix together the 1/2 cup sugar and cinnamon, and sprinkle evenly over the apple slices.
  4. Prepare the crumble top by mixing the remaining 1/3 cup sugar with the flour. Cut in the butter with a pastry blender or fork until ingredients are incorporated. Sprinkle crumble mixture on top of pie.
  5. Bake at 400°F for 35 to 40 minutes until crumble top is golden brown.
  6. Makes one pie.

Note: If your crumble mixture isn't crumbly enough to suit you, add a teaspoon or two more flour to firm it up.
