Hot Buttered Rum
A cup of Hot Buttered Rum takes the chill right out. This recipe is great for a party. Make the compound butter mixture ahead of time. This is a good recipe to experient with, such as using hot tea instead of hot water.
Ingredients:
- 1 pound butter (4 sticks), softened
- ¼ cup brown sugar
- 1 teaspoon cinnamon
- 1 teaspoon nutmeg
- 1 teaspoon allspice
- ½ teaspoon ground cloves
- Rum, one ounce light and one ounce dark
- ½ ounce of simple syrup
- boiling water
- Cinnamon stick for garnish
Preparation:
- To make the compound butter mixture, place the softened butter in a mixing bowl and then add the spices. Prepare a cookie sheet with wax paper and spoon out heaping tablespoons onto the wax paper. Chill in the refrigerator. Remove 30 minutes before use.
- To make the drinks: Mix one part of the compund butter mixture with two ounces of rum, one light and one dark. Add the simple syrup and and the hot water. Stir until the butter melts.
- Garnish with a cinnamon stick. Makes many wonderful mugs full.
Note: You can substitute Applejack for the rum. Do you have the correct glass for this piping hot beverage? Use Irish coffee mugs with the foot and handle.
