Soft Sugar Cookies

Cookies just like Grandma used to make. The secret to these cookies is using freshly-ground nutmeg.

  • 1-1/2 cups butter
  • 2 cups sugar
  • 3 eggs
  • 5 cups all-purpose flour
  • 5 teaspoons baking powder
  • 1/4 teaspoon salt
  • 2 teaspoons nutmeg
  • 1 cup milk
  1. Preheat oven to 350°F.
  2. Cream the butter with the sugar and eggs.
  3. Beat until light and fluffy.
  4. Sift together the flour, baking powder, nutmeg and salt.
  5. With electric mixer on low speed, gradually add the flour mixture to the sugar mixture.
  6. Add the milk and mix well.
  7. Drop by tablespoonfuls on an ungreased cookie sheet.
  8. Sprinkle cookies with granulated sugar, if desired.
  9. Bake for 10 to 12 minutes and edges begin to brown.
