Grapefruit Mexican Martini

Here is yet another way to use Texas grapefruit when in season (November through May). We found this drink, an intriguing version of the tequila-based Mexican Martini, on Gourmet Veggie Mama. However, after many taste tests, we chose to make our version without agave nectar, which gives this cocktail a sharper tequila edge.

  • 6 ounces tequila
  • 3 ounces Grand Marnier (or Paula's Texas Orange)
  • 3-4 ounces grapefruit juice
  • 1 ounce lime juice
  1. Combine the ingredients in a shaker filled with ice. Shake well.
  2. Strain into a salt-rimmed cocktail glass.

Note: If you notice, the amounts fill a standard size cocktail shaker. When served Mexican Martinis in an Austin restaurant, the waiter will pour your cocktail into your martini glass and leave the shaker at your table. There should be enough left for another glass.
