Crunchy Popcorn Bark

A delicious candy treat that takes popcorn to a new level. Like almond toffee, it's addictive.

2 quarts popped corn
1-1/2 cups pecan halves
2/3 cup whole almonds
1-1/3 cups sugar
1/2 cup light corn syrup (Karo)
1 cup butter
1 6-ounce package chocolate chips (optional)

Mix together the popped corn and nuts, and set aside.

In a saucepan, combine the sugar, corn syrup and butter. Bring to a boil and boil 12 to 15 minutes, stirring constantly. When the mixture turns light caramel in color, remove from heat and quickly stir in popcorn and nuts. Using wooden spoons, toss the mixture to evenly coat the popcorn. Be careful; mixture will be hot.

Spread out on a lightly buttered cookie sheet. Sprinkle hot popcorn mixture with chocolate pieces, if desired.

When mixture is cool, break it into pieces.

Makes 40 or so pieces.
