Frio River Cocktail

Frio River Cocktail
The Frio River is a short tributary in South Texas, a land home to many grapefruit trees. Combining fresh grapefruit juice from the distinctively sweet Texas Rio Star grapefruit, and raspberry liqeur, with a traditional Manhattan puts a whole new twist on the classic cocktail. It's also gives another reason to keep raspberry liqueor in the house.
  • 1 1/2 ounces to 2 ounces of rye or bourbon
  • 1/2 ounce sweet vermouth
  • 1/2 ounce fresh grapefruit juice (Naturally, we prefer Texas grapefruit)
  • 1/4 ounce Raspberry liqueur (Chambord, Mathilde Liqueur Framboise)
  • 1 dash orange bitters
  • 1 maraschino cherry
Shake whiskey, sweet vermouth, grapefruit juice with ice. Strain into a prechilled cocktail glass. Add orange bitters and cherry. Prep time: 4 minutes; Cooking time: 5 minutes; Total time: 9 minutes
